Madhya Pradesh, once known as “The Central Provinces” during British India, gets its name due to its geographical position in India. Famously known as “The Heart of Incredible India” contributes to every aspects of tourism ranging from the historical monuments to modern amenities, culture, food and people- this state gives a taste of entire India packed within its geographical boundaries. Some of the famous tourist destinations in Madhya Pradesh are Khajuraho, Orchha, Gwalior, Ujjain, Sanchi.

Gwalior – Gwalior is a major city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This city and its famous fort have always been the choice of tourists. There is a quadrilateral temple located in the Gwalior Fort. Gwalior city is the administrative headquarter of Gwalior district. Gwalior is also selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under smart cities mission.

Places to visit at Gwalior are Gwalior Fort, Tomb of Tansen, Sun Temple, Jai Vilas Palace and Museum.

Delicacies of Gwalior –

Gwalior A yummy tummy destination of Madhya Pradesh. The food of Gwalior is very famous. A local snack of Gwalior is Bedai, a poori stuffed with spiced lentils. Every morning you can have something different like, Samosa, Gulab Jamun, Laddu, Dal ka Halwa and the most famous sweet Gajak – made by sesame, sugar and ghee.

Khajuraho – Khajuraho is famous for its Unique Temples. These temples depict various like meditation, spiritual teachings, kinship, wrestling, royalty and most significantly, erotic art. Khajuraho is designated as the UNESCO world heritage site and which is highly worthy of tourist attentions. If you want to proof that Kama Sutra originated in India, Khajuraho is the place to see.

Places to visit at Khajuraho are Vishwanath Temple, Raneh Falls, Panna National Park, Lakshman Temple, Jain Museum, Parsvanath Temple, Dulhadev Temple.

Delicacies of Khajuraho: –

There are a regular train, busses and taxi Services from New Delhi for Khajuraho.

Orchha – Popularly known as “The Hidden Treasure” and one such tourist destination of Central India, which is full of History, Spirituality and Natural beauty, Orchha is the best place in Madhya Pradesh to get tranquility of mind. Where worship is of Rama also of Krishna. Where the palace is of Rudra Pratap singh and also of Jahangir.  But there is no other government here there is Raja Ram himself, who is famous as Rama Raja Sarkar.  The only place in India where Rama is worshiped only as God but also as a king.

Few of the places to visit at Orchha are Orchha Palace, Laxminarayan Temple, Chattris (Cenotaphs), Chaturbhuj Temple, Rani Mahal.

Delicacies of Orchha :-

Orchha also have many delicacies similar to Khajuraho, while here. Whenever visit Orchha don’t miss the Laal Mans, Rogan Josh, Mutton Kababs, Chicken Biryani, Sabudana Khichdi, Moong Dal Halwa, Jalebi, Cashew Barfi, Kusli, Lavang Lata and more.

How to reach: –

There are a regular train service to Jhansi and from there you can hire a private taxi or you can get city bus from Jhansi to Orchha.

Sanchi, The land of the Stupas attracts tourists from various countries throughout the world, especially from the Buddhist countries like China, Japan, and other Far East Asia countries. Home to UNESCO World Heritage “The Great Sanchi Stupa”, it provides eternal peace to its visitors. The Great Stupa was installed in 3 BC by Mauryan Emperor The Great Ashoka was once the center for Buddhist Monks to assemble and attain enlightment preachings. Few of the places to visit at Sanchi are The Great Sanchi Stupa, The Great Bowl, Ashok Pillar, The Eastern Gateway, Udaygiri Caves, Sanchi Museum.

Delicacy: Like other part of Madhya Pradesh, Sanchi is no exception for food. One can experience various cuisines of the world in local restaurants. Local dishes of Madhya Pradesh is also easily available here.

How to reach: Sanchi don’t have its own airport or railway station. But, proximity from Bhopal which is only 46 Km from Sanchi provides a good connectivity through Air and Rail. From Bhopal one can hire a private taxi or can use public transport to reach Sanchi.

Ujjain: One of the holiest places in India, Ujjain is the home to Mahakaleshwar and among the four sites to host the famous ‘Kumbh Mela’. Situated at the banks of River Shipra, it is the abode to The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrine of Lord Shiva.

Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, Kal Bhairava Temple, Ram Mandir Ghat, Kaliadeh Palace are few of the famous places to visit at Ujjain.

Delicacy: Ujjain is a holi place and majority of people here are vegetarian. Few of the restaurants offers non –vegetarian food, but they are very limited. One can get dishes from various Indian cuisines easily.

How to reach: Ujjain can be easily reach by railways. It has good connectivity by road with neighboring cities and towns. The nearest airport is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport at Indore.
